Accident Update - October 16, 2010

Accident Update

According to the Columbia Police Department, Friday afternoon, Oct. 15, at about 4:05 p.m., Edward Clark, 42, of South St. Louis County was driving a 2002 Ford Excursion northbound on Route 3 / Admiral Parkway. As he passed through the intersection of Valmeyer Road / Eagle Drive, a car cut into his path. The car was a 2006 Chevrolet passenger vehicle driven by Taylor Fehrenz, 18, of Freeburg. Fehrenz was attempting to turn left onto Eagle Drive from Route 3 and into the Columbia Middle School parking lot. The Excursion struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet.

Adrienne Glauber, 19, of Freeburg was sitting in the passenger seat of Fehrenz's vehicle. Glauber was pronounced dead at the scene by Monroe County Assistant Coroner Rick Brewer. Clark and Fehrenz were each transported to St. Anthony’s Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Their current conditions have not been reported. Funeral arrangements for Glauber are pending at Renner Funeral Home of Belleville.

Louise Harrison of Maryland Heights, Mo. witnessed the accident. She stated she was traveling northbound on Route 3 and was behind the Excursion. As those two vehicles had a green light and were crossing through the intersection, the Chevy car, which was in the southbound turn lane of Route 3, turned into the path of the Excursion. The impact caused both vehicles to spin around and come to rest near a traffic light close to CMS.

According to sources in Columbia, Fehrenz is the son of Columbia Middle School science teacher Teresa Fehrenz, who also resides in Freeburg. Taylor Fehrenz and Adrienne Glauber were driving to the school to assist in a function to be held later that evening. Taylor had agreed to provide D.J. services for the event.

The northbound lanes of Route 3 / Admiral Parkway were closed from 4 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. as the Columbia Police Department and the Illinois State Police investigated the incident.
