Weekend Wrap-Up - July 8, 2012
Waterloo Woman Injured In Rollover Accident Stacy (nee Roy) Murphy received minor injuries Thursday, July 5 when her GMC Envoy lost control and rolled over on Rogers Street, a few blocks south of Country Club Lane. She was transferred by the Monroe County EMS to Belleville Memorial Hospital
Heat Wave Broken With Cooling Thunderstorm After nearly a month without rain and 10 days of high temperatures above 100 degrees, the clouds opened up Saturday evening, July 7 and brought about two inches of rain to most parts of Monroe County. The sound of approaching thunder brought many Monroe Countians out of their homes to look up. Folks were pleased to see lightning, dark, rain-filled clouds coming their way and a cooling breeze which preluded a much-needed mid-summer shower. High winds caused two trees to fall onto Waterloo power lines, knocking out power for nearly two hours for parts of the city. The cooler temperature came to the relief of those dealing without use of electricity. Lightning struck the roof of a home in rural Millstadt and caused a large fire to erupt. The home was heavily damaged by the blaze. Millstadt firefighters were assisted by crews from Columbia, Hecker and Smithton, who battled the fire as well as the heavy winds and rain. Meteorologists predict a chance of rain on Sunday and highs “only” in the low 90s and upper 80s in the coming week.
